THE VETS GROUP, a non-profit 501(c) 3, community-based organization, headquartered in Washington, D.C. We provide a holistic program for Veterans and their families to Achieve Economic Empowerment through Education, Entrepreneurship, and Employment. Assistance with affordable housing, family strengthening, and health rehabilitation is also offered.

The VETS Group offers training in Federal Procurement, Small Business Development; education in Financial Literacy, Credit Repair and Identity Theft and is now in the process of implementing an initiative to identify more procurement opportunities for Veterans in the private-sector. Partnerships are being formed with large corporate enterprises to offer Veterans employment opportunities, business education, mentoring, technical assistance, growth capital, and access to international markets.

These activities are directed primarily, but not exclusively, toward veterans of the U.S. military service, their families, members of the National Guard and Reserves, members of the active military pending retirement or discharge, and service connected disabled veterans. Such veterans include Black, minority, and women veterans; veterans of limited means, recently separated veterans and veterans with barriers to employment.

In order to continue our broad initiatives, programs and advocacy for veterans, the Vets Group in support of the First Lady Michelle Obama’s Joining Forces Initiative has now Joined Forces with Metro Data Networks, LLC (MDN), a D.C. Certified Business Enterprise specializing in IT technical services and employment support (www.metrodatanetwork.com). By utilizing our State of the Art, Enterprise Training & Services Center, located in the heart of the Nation’s Capital, we are now offering training in Microsoft Windows 7 & Office, Information Technology Basics, Cisco Networks (through our Certified Cisco Academy) and Energy Auditing for Commercial and Residential properties.

THE VETERAN MARKET – GREATER WASHINGTON D.C. METRO AREA AND THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION

The VETS Group provides outreach and services to veterans and their families within the Greater Washington Metro Area and the Mid-Atlantic Region. According to U.S. Census numbers there are approximately 742,858 veterans in the Greater Washington DC Metropolitan Area which is made up of Washington, D.C., parts of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The Mid-Atlantic Region includes: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The combined total of veterans in this region is estimated to be 3,594,068.

The VETS Group participates in events at various military installations and government facilities in the Washington DC Metro Area. We also participate in selected national conferences with the
NAACP, Urban League, Blacks in Government, Congressional Black Caucus, Dept. of Veterans Affairs, and Veteran Service Organizations. Even though these outreach initiatives are targeted for locations around the country where there is a high percentage of minority veterans, they will also be effective in reaching family members of veterans too.   Read More…
